Showing an Organic Look to South Florida

Steidel Contemporary will be showcasing new works from prominent wood artist, Michael Bauermeister, at the upcoming modern and contemporary art fair, Art Palm Beach. With a strong following at such sculptural-driven platforms as SOFA Chicago since 1998, multiple inclusions in national publications, and works included in the Smithsonian Museum, Bauermeister has an accomplished career as a wood sculptor but has yet to grace the South Florida art market with his works of art. Steidel Contemporary (London, Texas, and Florida), will be rectifying this by debuting Bauermeister’s latest sculptural wall panels that ‘“capture the wonders of the natural world” (American Craft June/July issue 2013) at Art Palm Beach fair in January 2018.

Gallery Director Maxwell Chapman states, “We want to have a more organic look dedicated to texture and simplicity. Wood art also alludes an immediate integrity with its bold substance. We feel there is a current shift to embrace the warmth and energy of wood as part of the greater ecological and sustainability movements and we want to be at the forefront of that effort within the context of art and design.” The gallery maintains a strong focus on wood art including collections from wood sculptors Michael Bauermeister, David Erdman, and Mark Henry Doolittle. Steidel Contemporary is a leading platform for international, contemporary works of art. The gallery has a focus on innovative collections and promotes artists in exhibitions at some of the world’s most prestigious art fairs.
