As an artist, Didem Yagci deeply questions her own reasons for existence. Her earlier works focused on the relationship between material and meaning, depicted through women with the idea that the difference of mankind from other living beings lies in the sensations they experience through their bodies.
As Didem's artistic journey deepened, her artistic approach and artwork have evolved into multi dimensional-layered wall sculptures in a very unique way. Her sculptures are based upon the architecture, design & installation psychology of metropolises, and the visually coded hierarchy of the urban areas, emphasizing the relationship between the human’s position in society with the illusional relation on the human’s body, identity, and fate. These geometric illusions which are referred to as the psychology of urban touch, constituting both a virtual architectural space and as a reflection of multilayered forms of understanding.
Didem's wooden sculptures form kinetical patterns that also express notions of creation, infinity and eternity. Her method of working with wood is unprecedented so that she layers the delicate pieces and sands them by hand and placing them together to create three-dimensional canvases with richly textured, impasto-like surfaces.
